Claire Koch, a kindergartner, has deaf parents. So while she and her classmates sang a song at a holiday concert, she used sign language to convey the words.

The video of the concert has garnered increasing views online. The YouTube video has almost 450,000 views.

Lori Koch, Claire’s mother, said that the signing was unexpected but a wonderful surprise.

“The regular kids used generic hand motions while my daughter chose to use sign language, to our surprise,” she told Yahoo News via email.

While Lori can read lips, speak, and sign, her husband can only use sign language.

“ASL is the first language in our home, so our daughter has been exposed to it since birth,” she said.
