HOUSTON—Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company was a cultural experience for the audience at Jones Hall in Houston Thursday evening, Dec. 22.
“I loved it. It was really, really good, the performance was just excellent,” said Dr. Yvette Nadeau, a chiropractor. She attended the New York-based company’s performance with Dr. Richard Brassard, president of the Texas Chiropractic College, and said chiropractic, being so close to Eastern culture, naturally led their interests to Shen Yun upon seeing an advertisement.
Dr. Nadeau loved the spiritual aspect of the show, and was well aware of how divinely inspired traditional Chinese culture is.
“I loved it. How it evolved is everything that I knew, and now seeing it on stage, it’s so much nicer than just reading it in books,” she laughed. Shen Yun brings 5,000 years of Chinese civilization to life on stage with traditional dance, song, and music performed by an orchestra that combines classical Chinese with Western instruments.
“The orchestra, and then the scenery behind it, and the performers, that’s where I was impressed, and how everything came together. How they just brought it all together. It was really amazing how they just did that,” Dr. Nadeau said.
Shen Yun uses an animated backdrop that depicts scenes from the many, diverse regions of China and vibrant, heavenly scenes.
“[I’m] just astonished, amazed, and definitely would come back,” Dr. Nadeau said.
Dr. Brassard agreed, “It was wonderful, we thoroughly enjoyed it.”
“The entire production is amazing, and the meaning behind it, the feelings behind it, was projected very well by the entertainers,” Dr. Brassard said.
Shen Yun has three companies touring the world. Shen Yun Performing Arts New York Company will perform at Houston’s Jones Hall through Tuesday, Dec. 27. For more information visit ShenYunPerformingArts.org
