A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the Chicago area until later Monday night, while Illinois received a tornado warning, according to reports.

The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning until 10 p.m., according to ABC-7, prompting flight delays at Midway and O’Hare airports.

Storms have produced heavy winds that weather officials say could spawn tornadoes in other parts of Illinois. A tornado warning was issued for LaSalle, Kendall, Kane and DeKalb counties.

The Chicago Tribune reported that the storm could produce hail as large as 2 inches in diameter in the city along with winds with gusts up to 80 miles per hour, as well as frequent bursts of lightning.

“These are very dangerous storms,” the National Weather Service warned.

Winds as high was 70 miles per hour were noted in Davenport, Iowa, as part of the same storm system, according to the Tribune.
