B&M Inc., the manufacturer of O Organics organic celery seed sold in Safeway stores, said it is recalling the product over possible salmonella contamination.

Swanson Health Products is also recalling Swanson organic celery seed (whole), which is supplied by B&M, according to a statement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The O Organics celery seed is sold at all Safeway-owned stores, including Carrs, Dominick’s, Genuardi’s, Pak ‘N Save, Pavilions, Randalls, Tom Thumb, and Vons according to the statement. The FDA said that no illnesses have been reported.

The O Organic celery seed is sold in a glass bottle and has a net weight of 1.8 ounces, and was sold between May 25 and Dec. 16. Swanson’s product is packaged in a plastic bottle with a net weight of 1.4 ounces and was sold at its retail store in Fargo, N.D., online or via mail order.

Salmonella can cause fatal illness in young children, the elderly, or frail people, or in people with weakened immune systems, the FDA said.
