The investigation into the car crash that has left Carl Pistorius in critical condition is underway.

“We have opened a case of reckless or negligent driving and police and the Limpopo traffic department are investigating,” Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said.

“The information will be collated into a centralised docket that will be sent to the director of public prosecutions for a decision.”

Paramedics had to use the jaws-of-life to free Carl Pistorius after his car collided head-on with another car on Friday night at around 8pm, reported the Citizen.

The two other occupants in Carl’s car escaped unscathed while the driver of the other vehicle is also injured.

Arnold Pistorius, Carl’s uncle, said in a statement that Carl is “out of danger” following the accident while adding that Carl’s vehicle was hit by the other vehicle after it swerved into oncoming traffic on the N1 highway.

Mulaudzi denied reports of drunk driving.

Carl was acquitted on a culpable homicide charge last year for colliding with a motorbike that left the driver dead.

Carl Pistorius was returning from a business trip in Polokwane on Friday evening. A colleague was following him in a different car and witnessed the accident, his uncle said, reported SAPA.

The murder trial of Carl’s younger brother Oscar is slated to wrap up this week.
