A plane was reported to have crashed into the sea of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands on Thursday but a local radio station retracted the report.
The Canary Islands emergency services said that a ship was mistaken for an airline, reported Reuters.
“In the sea there is a towing another boat carrying a crane. In the distance it looked like a plane, but it is not. False alarm,” reported the local Spanish Twitter account @controllers.
“The similarity of these ships with an aircraft has been such that even several drivers were confused,” it said.
