UPDATE: The airport was reopened on Thursday afternoon after the FAA approved it.
Reports said that the airport will reopen at 6 p.m. after repairs are made.
CBS reported that two people might have been injured in the lightning strike.
NBC Washington reported that a control tower was struck.
The Federal Aviation Administration ordered the shut down, according to CBS Baltimore.
The station reported that no flights are landing or taking off as of now.
The lightning struck on Thursday afternoon as storms storms came through the region.
The Baltimore Sun reported that a watch shows there is a possibility for winds, rain, and lightning. Airport officials told the paper that they are not sure how long the airport will stay shut down.
