Bug Selig, the MLB commissioner, is slated to retire in less than two years, according to reports.
Jon Heyman with CBS Sports broke the story on Thursday. Selig will make the formal announcement later in the day.
“Bud Selig will today announce formally he’s retiring, effective in January 2015,” Heyman wrote on Twitter.
It is unclear why Selig, 79, is retiring.
“MLB commisioner Bud Selig will formally announce his retirement at 3 o‘clock. He’ll leave the game after the 2014 season, as was expected,” wrote the New York Daily News Twitter.
Selig became the commissioner in 1992 after Fay Vincent was voted out.
