TV channel Lifetime has released the first trailer for the new Brittany Murphy biopic (“The Brittany Murphy Story”) which hints at the other possible cause of her death—murder.

The story of Murphy’s rise to fame and mysterious death are at the center of the biopic. The actress died in 2009, and while the court ruled her death an accident, the trailer suggests otherwise.

The Lifetime movie will explore her father’s attempts to reopen the case, claiming that forensic evidence proves that the star may have been poisoned.

In an interview with ET, Murphy’s father, Angelo, said that it’s difficult to say who could be the one to blame for Murphy’s death.

“But she was murdered, there’s no question about it,” her father said in the 2013 interview.

Former “Grey’s Anatomy” star Amanda Fuller will portray Murphy in the biopic, and Eric Pearson will play Murphy’s husband Simon Monjack, who was found 5 months later dead of an eerily same cause.

“She was a beautifully spirited, open, extremely talented girl, who I think had a lot of negative influences in her life when it comes to trying to be loved,” Fuller said about Murphy.

The biopic will premiere on September 6, 2014.
