NYPD Police Commissioner William Bratton is regarded as an international expert on reducing crime, combating gang violence, and improving police-community relations. He also owns a venture-capital backed startup, New York-based Bratton Technologies, that last year developed a Facebook for cops known as BlueLine. Before that, he co-created a crime-mapping system. He is also an avid tweeter from his own personal account, where multiple posts chronical his daily movements. He is also a staunch supporter of the use of Twitter at the NYPD, where even local precincts are getting involved.

BlueLine

BlueLine is a platform where law enforcement staff nationwide can share files, photos, instant messages, and video about subject matter and expertise of interest to them. It was conceived in early 2013 and created by Bratton Technologies.

Compstat

No stranger to meshing technology with crime-fighting, Bratton is widely credited with co-creating Compstat, the innovative crime-mapping system used in New York, Los Angeles, and several other major cities. The technology allows police to better allocate resources to high-crime areas.
