[In “Our Self-Induced Catastrophe at the Border,“ published in the Sept. 27 edition,] Victor Davis Hanson goes down the long list of the political blindness of the Biden administration concerning our border with Mexico. President Biden will have to stop pretending that the southern border ”is secure,“ because NYC Mayor Eric Adams is openly criticizing the federal government, [saying,] ”We’re getting no support on this national crisis, and we’re receiving no support,” as reported by Newsmax in September.

Mayor Adams knows where thousands of the illegal immigrants are coming from. He stated, “Started with a madman down in Texas, decided he wanted to bus people up to New York City.” That “madman” is Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. But kudos to Abbott to “share the wealth” of illegal immigrants with altruistic sanctuary cities. Gov. Abbott has bused thousands of illegal immigrants—a total of 35,000—to self-described sanctuary cities for processing: NYC, Washington, Chicago, Philadelphia, Denver, and Los Angeles. I'll bet these sanctuary cities are regretting their “philanthropy” now, although the point of sanctuary cities is to harbor illegal immigrants from federal interference.

The number of immigrants Gov. Abbott is busing to sanctuary cities is but a small fraction of immigrants his state is forced to keep in their care. Texas is not a country unto itself, nor is it a state alone by itself. Texas is part of the United States of America. President Biden should calculate state by state population and apportion the equitable allocation of all immigrants to the 50 states, as we abide by the famous inscription on the Statue of Liberty: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” But let’s not get carried away; better to secure our borders.
