An explosive device was found at the Our Lady of Aparecida shrine in Brazil ahead of Pope Francis’s visit, it was reported.
The military said that the device was destroyed when it was found at the shrine, located between Rio and Sao Paulo, AFP reported.
The device, the military said, was homemade and was deposited in the bathroom of the shrine’s parking garage.
Francis was slated to visit the shrine Wednesday.
The NBC News Twitter feed also cited a source who said that the device was found at a “Brazil shrine that pope will visit this week.”
