The Atlanta Journal-Constitution apologized on Wednesday for a tweet that irritated users with its racial implications.

Linking to a story about a lottery winner, the outlet said that the winner, Willie Lynch, could get “40 acres and a whole lotta mules” with the $1 million winnings.

Backlash was swift, with some wondering whether the person who wrote the tweet would be fired.

“The AJC apologizes for & deeply regrets the tweet that was posted earlier today,” said the Constitution. “We are working to address this situation internally.”
