Art Donovan, who was a defensive tackle for the Baltimore Colts, died on Sunday, it was reported. He was 89.

Donovan, who played in the NFL for 12 years, died just before 8 p.m., according to the Baltimore Sun.

“Artie made a career out of telling people everything that he‘d done right — and wrong — in football,” Ordell Braase, a former teammate, told the Sun. “The diversity of his appeal was amazing. Everyone wanted to hug ’Fatso,' from young girls to little old ladies.”

Donovan was a frequent guest on the David Letterman show, appearing 10 times.

He was also a Colts Hall of Famer.
