Jared Lee Loughner, the alleged shooter in Saturday’s shooting in Arizona, is facing five federal complaints for his actions on Saturday, including for the shooting of Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, Dennis K. Burke, announced Sunday that Loughner is a suspect in the shooting of Rep. Giffords, Chief Judge John Roll, and approximately 16 others.

The federal complaint against Loughner includes charges that he attempted to kill Giffords, that he killed one of Giffords’s staff members, Gabriel Zimmerman, and killed Judge Roll.

The complaint also alleges that Loughner attempted to kill both Pamela Simon and Ron Barber, members of Giffords’s staff.

Loughner is scheduled to make an initial court appearance on Monday in Phoenix where dates will be set for a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing. Loughner is currently in federal custody.

A grand jury is required to review the evidence against Loughner and issue an indictment within 30 days of his initial appearance. According to the Department of Justice, the U.S. attorney’s office in Arizona is currently drafting an indictment.
