The fifth annual Open House Dublin, organised by the Irish Architecture Foundation, takes place this weekend from October 7th to 10th.

Over the Open House weekend, almost one hundred buildings in Dublin will be made accessible to the public, allowing them to discover the architecture of these buildings, with special tours and events taking place - and all for free. Dublin’s buildings of all types and periods will be available for one and all to explore.

Open House Dublin also includes Open House Junior, which provides events and workshops for young people to sample what it’s like to be an architect for the day, along with lectures, talks and exhibitions on architecture as well as the Irish Times open architectural debate on “Does Size Matter?” in the Aviva stadium.

There will also be architectural walks, cycles and boat tours to allow Dublin’s citizens and visitors alike to see as much of the architecture of Dublin as possible, and from all angles.

The categories are divided four ways: Residential, Cultural/Educational, Public/Community and Office/Commercial, while the events are divided up into three sections.

Open Minds offers an assorted cross-section of events, exhibitions and lectures relating to local and international issues; Open Space is a programme of architectural walks, cycles and boat tours which investigates relevant issues relating to our built environment; and Open House Junior (mentioned earlier) is a unique programme of children’s events, workshops, walks and family events.

As well as the city centre, parts of the northern suburbs and Fingal and some southern suburbs, as well as Dun Laoghaire and Rathdown, are also participating in the event.

There is definitely something of “Dear Old Dublin” for everyone to enjoy.
