Amir Khan won’t ever get his dream of facing Floyd Mayweather or Manny Pacquiao, according to Khan’s former trainer.
Freddie Roach, who now helps train Pacquiao, says that Khan will never face the Pacman.
Roach also says that Khan won’t get a chance at Mayweather despite the belief among some circles that Khan will get a shot if he beats Devon Alexander next month.
“It’s not going to happen,” Roach said--not because Khan isn’t good enough, but because he’s perhaps too good.
“Floyd knows that Amir’s speed would trouble him. He is too careful with his choice of opponents to take that risk,” Roach told the Daily Mail.
“'Floyd also knows he himself doesn’t possess the knock-out punch which would make him more certain of winning that fight.”
Roach says that Khan, though, isn’t good enough to face Pacquiao, revealing that Pacquiao knocked Khan out several times when they were training together in his Wild Card gym in Los Angeles.
“Manny frequently put Amir on the floor, knocking him cold four or five times,” Roach said.
Since that was inflicted with gloves more thickly padded than those used in actual fights and Pacquiao is as fast as Khan, Roach said: ‘There’s no point Manny fighting Amir. The reality is that it’s no big fight.”
