On Nov. 22, 2013, from 1:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. EST, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy Presidential Library will webcast a live musical tribute in honor of the memory of President Kennedy. Award-winning singer-songwriter James Taylor; award-winning saxophonist Paul Winterand the Paul Winter Sextet, which was invited by Jacqueline Kennedy to be the first jazz ensemble ever to play at the White House; and the United States Naval Academy Women’s Glee Club will each perform musical selections including two froem the president’s state funeral, according to the library.
The performance will include a moment of silence at 2:00 p.m., when the president’s death was announced.
An exhibit of never before displayed Kennedy artifacts opens and will stay open into 2014.
The library launched a website to collect people’s stories about Kennedy and what his ideas mean to them. It is called An Idea Lives On.
Brookline, Mass.
Kennedy’s childhood home, the John Fitzgerald Kennedy National Historic Site, will have free admission, with a ceremony Sunday.
Dallas
Dealey Plaza, where Kennedy was shot, will host thousands of people at events commemorating Kennedy. Exhibits, conferences, performances, and film screenings are among the Dallas events.
A candlelight vigil for fallen Officer J.D. Tippit will be held 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., organized by the Dallas Police Association. Lee Harvey Oswald shot and killed Tippit after he killed Kennedy.
Washington
President Barack Obama visited Kennedy’s grave Wednesday, and later gave Medals of Freedom, an honor Kennedy established. He will meet privately with Peace Corps leaders and volunteers on Nov. 22. Kennedy started the Peace Corps in 1961.
The Newseum will host JFK Remembrance Day, which includes a rebroadcast of three hours of CBS News’s live television coverage on the assassination. It offers multiple exhibits and films exploring Kennedy’s life.
