An article saying that all Americans will get an RFID microchip implant due to Obamacare by the year 2017 isn’t real.

There’s been rumors and hoaxes going around about RFID implants being a requirement due to Obamacare for years.

The latest iteration was posted on The PCMD Magazine, which appears to have republished another version of the hoax.

“NBC has recently predicted that in 2017, all of America will be tagged with microchips. They will be implanted to help identify individuals immediately. According to the report, the technology is used to answer one question, ‘Am I who I say I am?’” the fake report reads.

According to Hoax-Slayer, the claims aren’t true.

“The claims are conspiracy theory nonsense. The 2007 NBC report suggested that microchips might be used in the future to record a person’s medical data in case of emergency. It did not state or even imply that all citizens would be mandatorily microchipped. This is just the latest incarnation of a long running and utterly absurd conspiracy theory that claims - without a shred of credible evidence - that various governments were intent on forcibly microchipping their citizens in order to control them,” it says.

Since at least 2012, there’s been iterations of the Obamacare-RFID rumor, says Snopes.com.

“Some May 2012 versions of the hoax circulated by e-mail and Facebook postings displayed a photograph of the purported chip meant to be implanted, an item described as the size of ‘a grain of rice.’ The chip shown in the photo is actually one that measures glucose levels in diabetes patients, as evidenced by this 2007 article about this new concept in glucose monitoring,” the website said at the time.

And last year, the National Report--a “satirical” website--posted a hoax story saying that people in Wyoming had already received the chips.
