Flooding in New Mexico, has forced evacuations in Crownpoint, northwest of Albuquerque, say officials. It comes as state officials said a big Rio Grande River flood flow is heading to the city.

Citing an emergency manager, AccuWeather.com reported that Crownpoint is being evacuated.

The Albuquerque Journal reported Friday that residents should stay out of the riverside bosque.

Flood flows are heading down the river from Sandoval County, the paper reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s San Felipe gauge shows that the river is flowing at 8,900 cubic feet per second, which is the highest the river has been since the 1960s.

There is no dam to stop the river, meaning floodwaters could hit Albuquerque within four to six hours.
