Agustin Caruso, a 23-year-old Etobicoke man, was charged with second degree murder in the slaying of Christopher Skinner in 2009.
Skinner was beaten and run over with an SUV in Toronto after he left the Entertainment District.
He was trying to hail a cab after celebrating his sister’s birthday. Police have said that he was beaten by as many as five men before he was run over.
According to the Toronto Star, he was found lying in the middle of the street. He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officials said that before the beating, he got into an altercation with men inside the SUV.
Det.-Sgt. Stacy Gallant told CTV News that Caruso was driving the SUV.
“I’m disappointed to say that in the four years of this ongoing investigation, none of the individuals that did not participate in the death of Christopher Skinner chose to come forward on their own,” Gallant told CBC. “They instead kept this information to themselves and lived with it for the past four years. I feel for the family that had to live with it for four years.”
