NEW YORK—In recognition of Women’s History Month, Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes honored 31 women from the borough for their contributions to their communities. The following is a profile of a few of these special women.
VERONICA PRICE, 62, of Bedford Stuyvesant, is the director of Comprehensive Care Management home care. Her work ethics are “to be fair, to be honest, and to be just, and not to go along with what everybody else says.”
Price strongly believes in advocating for “what is right and to go against the grain if necessary.” Being in a caring profession, Price’s advice is “if you know that somebody is in need or that they need help, they shouldn’t have to ask you. You should be astute enough to observe that and to reach out to help.”
PHILIPPA MORRISH of Bay Ridge, an etiquette consultant, and founder of Etiquette Training International. A specialist and expert in social skills and deportment, Morrish’s passion is education. She teaches business and social protocol programs to adults and teenagers. She has conducted workshops for federal corrections officers and military officers at the Fort Hamilton Army Base.
“I use etiquette in a broad way, in a sense that it is not just about how to eat, [or] set the table correctly. I go beyond the traditional way etiquette is perceived,” said Morrish.
Through teaching etiquette, Morrish aims to achieve two goals. The first is to boost the self-esteem of women returning to the workforce, and secondly, to enable them to be the best that they can be and yet stay true to themselves.
Her advice for women is “to find your true passion and to nurture that.” There are so many distractions in life, financial, family, and age, that “you have to delve deep to find whatever it is that motivates and spurs you, that which you will do for free if you can afford it,” said Morrish. “That is when you know it is your passion. Then we will be excellent instead of mediocre.”
