The Ninth Annual 2015 New York Dance Parade and Festival took place on Broadway at 21 Street down to Tompkins Square Park, Saturday, May 16, 11:00am. Presented by Dance Parade, Inc., its mission is to inspire dance through the celebration of diversity. This year’s Grand Marshals were American actress, dancer and choreographer Carmen De Lavallade; Mary Verdi-Fletcher, founder, Dancing Wheels; choreographer, artistic director Robert Battle, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater; and DJ Rekha, Ambassador of Bhangra and Bollywood Dance in North America.

It was a beautiful spring day for a parade down on Broadway as large crowds gathered to watch a celebration of dance performed by thousands of International dancers wearing amazing costumes dancing to all music genres from traditional folk to ballet on wheels to flamenco to jazz to electronic dance to house and Bollywood dance. The Dance Parade 2015 Grandstand master of ceremonies on Eighth Street was DJ BooshWheelz. The lineup included Dancehall Explosion with Rick Long, NYC Bhangra, Samira’s School of Belly Dance, Manhattan Tribal, Barbara Tucker Celebrates 30 Years of House Music, Xoghipilli Dance Ensemble, Seekers of Knowledge, Inc., Columbias First Latino Dance Troupe and Red Silk Dancers.

Maria Esteves pursued her passion as a photographer and writer in the arts in the aftermath of 9/11. It has led to cover interviews, awards ceremonies, film reviews, celebrity photos and videos in fashion, film, music and technology. This native New Yorker has spoken with Award-winning recording artists such as Randy Jones to filmmakers like Greg Pak and Todd Haynes, Academy Award-winners Murray Lerner, to fashion designer Mara Hoffman, and actresses such as Celia Weston.
