Facebook is adding four new features to its Messenger that may actually make you switch some of your business correspondence from email to Facebook.

While announcing that 900 million people now use its Messenger every month, Facebook rolls out Usernames, Links, Messenger Codes, and Messenger Greetings that aim to make it easier to not only socialize, but also network and do business over Facebook.

Usernames

When looking at your Facebook Page, soon you‘ll see under its name tag another identification, similar to a Twitter handle (with an “@” in front of it). You’ll be able to edit this user name and share it with people as a unique identification.

“Pages that already have a vanity URL (unique URLs such as facebook.com/JaspersMarket) already have a username, because a Page’s username (@JaspersMarket) and vanity URL are the same,” Facebook April 7 release states.

Messenger Links

This feature allows you to create a link in this format: m.me/[your user name]. You can share this link and if somebody clicks on it, it will directly open a blank Facebook message with you as the addressee.

Messenger Codes

Messenger Codes work similarly to Snapchat codes. They are unique circular codes with your profile picture in the center that can be scanned through your phone camera using the Facebook Messenger app. After scanning, the app directly opens a blank message with you as the addressee.

“No more back and forth with texts trying to make sure you have the right number saved and awkwardly asking people how to spell their names. Your settings tab in Messenger has your own Messenger Code displayed prominently to scan or share,” the release states.

Messenger Greetings

When somebody opens a Facebook message thread to your business, you can have a introductory text appear in the Messenger window.

“Businesses can use this text to greet people and set a friendly tone while letting people know what types of messages are expected. Set and edit your greeting in your Page’s Message Settings,” Facebook advises.

Facebook stated it will roll out these features globally over the coming weeks.

“Phone numbers aren’t necessary, and you don’t have to be friends on Facebook,” the company states.
