3D TV display performance is better on plasma TVs compared to LCD ones, and the 3D experience in current sets is respectable, Consumer Reports said this week in its latest report on the tech fad.
The tech-review magazine scrutinized 14 different 3D TV models and found that plasma TVs, in general, had less “ghosting,” or doubled images, than LCD TVs.
While the 3D experience with most models was satisfactory, the quality varied “quite a bit among the 14 models,” Consumer Reports wrote in a statement.
The report hinted that some 3D TV models could warrant their expensive price-tag.
“Our tests show that there are some fine 3D TV sets out there for those consumers eager for a new experience,” said Paul Reynolds, electronics editor for Consumer Reports, said in a statement.
However, the market for 3D TVs has yet to develop fully, and fears over 3D-viewing health effects and limited releases have slowed demand for 3D televisions.
“It remains to be seen whether 3D TV is just a novelty or a new product category in the consumer electronics space,” Reynolds said.
