Two military jets have collided off the coast of San Diego on Wednesday, it has been reported.
NBC San Diego reported that two F/A-18 Hornets were taking part in a training mission before the mid-air collision. The incident occurred before noon, officials at the Marine Corps Air Station Miramar told NBC.
One pilot ejected over the water.
The other managed to land safely at Naval Air Station North Island.
A search and rescue operation is being done to rescue the pilot who ejected over the water.
The cause of the crash is being investigated, officials told NBC.
The collision follows an Oct. 25 crash involving another F/A-18 Hornet in the California desert. The pilot in that crash ejected without injuries after the jet crashed near the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, a sprawling base east of Los Angeles.
In July, another twin-engine Hornet went down during a training mission at the desert base, killing the pilot.
