LOS ANGELES–New York based Shen Yun Performing Arts charmed theatergoers this Jan. 13, as Angelenos were transported to the majesty of China’s 5,000 year old heritage, through classical Chinese dance, music, and legends.
Among the audience members at the sold out Dorothy Chandler Pavilion this afternoon was Mr. Luis Chacon, a real estate broker by profession, and retired army sergeant.
Mr. Chacon, now president of Covina’s rotary club, offered his impression of the show saying, “Awesome. All I can say is awesome. I love the culture. I like the diversity of colors, the actual storyline. It’s kind interesting to see what has transpired over the last 5,000 years and see it all develop and such. I’m a retired first sergeant from the army, so when I see some of this stuff, I can appreciate the diversity that exists.”
Shen Yun conveys the dynastic and ethnic history of China with luminous color–through the vivid hand made costumes, or the digital hi-tech backdrop depicting pastoral scenes or celestial paradises.
“At this level, from the cultural perspective, from the dance and the expression of artists, it’s my first time,” he explained about his experience of classical Chinese artistry.
Classical Chinese dance has three main components, bearing, form and technical skill. These require systematic training in posture and movement that includes very difficult jumping and tumbling techniques.
The Shen Yun Orchestra also has distinctive sound by mixing classical Western instruments of strings, percussion, woodwinds, and brass with the ancient Eastern ones the erhu and pipa.
Eager to spread the word about the unique and uplifting experience, Mr. Chacon commented, “Everything, it’s just so awesome, I still look forward to seeing more. I’m going pass the word around.”
“I think it should be definitely well publicized. I think it should be seen by everyone, and like I said, it’s just outstanding.”
