Passengers got a wild ride on a United Airlines flight from Panama City, Panama, to George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston. Turbulence shook the plane so violently, 14 people suffered injuries and seven were hospitalized, ABC13 reported.
Flight 1031 took off from Panama City on Tuesday morning and hit severe turbulence about 80 miles east of Cancún in Mexican airspace, NBC reported.
Frightened passengers were being tossed around.
“Many people were crying,” Carlos Padron, one of the passengers, told ABC13.

Padron suffered from a gash on his head but didn’t go to a hospital.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, 44 people were injured due to turbulence during flights in 2016 and 33 of them were passengers.
The surest way to prevent injury during turbulence is to keep one’s seat belt buckled during flight, the FAA recommends.
