Police are still searching for at least one person suspected of shooting up a crowd of people early on Monday morning, leaving 11 people injured. Authorities released video footage Monday in the hopes that the perpetrators will be caught.
Those injured in the drive-by shooting on North Capitol Street were taken to a local hospital. One man was shot in the back and was seriously injured, but none of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries, reported The Associated Press.
In the incident, two cars sped down a street and fired shots rapidly, prompting crowds of people of scatter and run off. Police released video footage to the public in the hopes of identifying the vehicles of the gunmen.
“Whether they came from the club, I’m not sure,” police Chief Cathy Lanier told AP. “There is usually a pretty good crowd out here—Saturday night, Sunday night.”
Metropolitan Police officials said they are searching for a dark colored BMW and a light-colored sedan, according to WFMY-2 television. Police are offering up to $10,000 for anyone with information leading to the arrest of the suspects.
The shooting took place in front of the crime-ridden Tyler House apartment complex.
Commander Andy Solberg told The Washington Post that in the area, when clubs close early in the morning, “a whole lot of people with cash in their pockets come out onto the street, and the guys from Tyler House are waiting for them. That’s when you get the holdups and that’s the source of the shootings in the neighborhood.”
“You won’t get the violence down as much as you'd like until you do something about Tyler House,” he added.
