At least one person died and several were injured after a ride at the Ohio State Fair malfunctioned on Wednesday evening.
Five people were critically injured in the accident, NBC 4 in Columbus reported.
One other person was listed in stable condition.
The Ohio State Fair tweeted about the incident around 7:30 p.m. local time.
“There has been a report of a ride incident. We are investigating and will report information as available,” it said.
The Columbus Dispatch reported that some of the victims were thrown from the ride---the Fire Ball ride.
Ohio Gov. John Kasich sent his condolences to the victims on Twitter. “I am terribly saddened by this accident, the loss of life and that people were injured enjoying Ohio’s fair,” he wrote.
He ordered a full investigation into the incident, ordering that “all fair rides be shut down” until more inspections are completed.
Wednesday was the opening day at the Ohio State Fair, which runs until August 6.
