Arthur Buaya Garingo, a councilor of Godod, was shot dead early Tuesday in an ambush.

Police are still gathering leads regarding motives behind the attack, reported the Bombo Radyo.

Garingo left his home on his motorcycle around 7 a.m. and was headed to Godod, which is in Zamboanga del Norte, for a town council meeting.

But armed men blocked his path at the highway at Purok 2 in Barangay Raba and shot him.

The killers, who used .45 caliber pistols, took off toward Barangay Banuangan.
