According to the Associated Press, an armed man was arrested on Sunday at a North Carolina airport parking lot just after Air Force One departed.

Joseph Sean McVey, 23 of Coshocton, Ohio, is charged with going armed in terror of public. Security in the area had been heightened as President Obama was scheduled to be at a memorial event for the 29 coal miners killed in the recent West Virginia mine explosion.

At about 2 p.m. according to AP the suspect was spotted with a side arm after getting out of his maroon car with Ohio plates. The suspect was not near the president’s plane when it departed.

The investigation is continuing and according to AP the secret service had no comment on the arrest.

McVey was being held at the Buncombe Country jail on $100,000 bond.
