The relationship between Ariana Grande and Jennette McCurdy is “strained” and they probably won’t be hanging out anytime soon.

The once-close friends were reportedly involved in a rift regarding how they were treated on Sam & Cat, the extremely popular Nickelodeon show that they starred on.

Sam & Cat was canceled recently, the network confirmed.

Back in April, as the rumors about the rift flew, Grande told fans via Twitter that she and McCurdy agreed that “would be treated equally” in “all regards.”

“The rumors circulating about our contracts and our salary not being equal are absolutely ridiculous and false,” she said. “I don’t know who’s putting these idiotic quotes out there but I thought I'd straighten it out and try to end this nonsense.”

But There’s apparently tension between the two stars still. A source close to both told Hollywood Life:

“Jennette is upset the show is not returning but she wanted to be treated with the same respect that Ariana was being treated with and also wanted more money.”

Another source said that jealousy played a part in what happened.

“I do now that there’s probably a lot of jealousy there — they’re young girls,” a different source, close to Grande, said. “I do know there’s a little bit of jealousy because Jennette owned Nickelodeon and then Ariana came along.”

“They are not close and will definitely not be best friends from this, they are both moving on from it as if it was a relationship ending,” a source added.“They will play nice but they will only really see each other at award shows mostly, which is very easy to avoid people at, so no Thanksgiving dinners for them in the future.”
