Aretha Franklin, the renowned soul singer, may have pancreatic cancer, following a report released today, Dec. 8, by The National Enquirer.

However, Franklin has not issued a statement, and family members in Detroit are not commenting on the nature of her illness, but instead focusing on her recuperation.

Franklin’s cousin, Brenda Corbett, told the Detroit Free Press the songstress is doing well.

“Aretha is doing better than doctors expected,” Corbett said. “She has a long life in front of her and will be back in concert, on stage, late spring or early summer.”

Earline Franklin, the singer’s sister-in-law, told the Free Press that Franklin is “doing absolutely wonderful,” adding “all the prayers and well wishes have supported her.”

It is now a week since the 68-year-old underwent a surgical procedure at a Detroit hospital for an undisclosed illness.

Following surgery, Franklin released a statement to the Associated Press, saying it was “highly successful.”

A month earlier, on Nov. 4, the “Queen of Soul” canceled all her concerts through May 2011 due to medical reasons.
