The month of October, or one might say Archtober, will bring architecture and design in New York City to life through a series of events.
The second annual celebration kicks off Monday, Oct. 1 in conjunction with World Architecture Day. Representing the aspirations of architects around the world to achieve quality in design, the day aims to garner public appreciation of buildings found around the world.
The Building of the Day program offers a free noontime tour of a different building each day of October. The Tuesday tour through the new Barclays Center by SHoP architects will take the public through the home of the Brooklyn Nets.
On Thursday, landscape artist Christo Vladimirov Javacheff will talk about art, architecture, and landscapes. His works draws attention to, and shows an appreciation of, nature. One project he and his wife donated to the city, The Gates, saw 7,500 large orange gates dotted throughout Central Park’s landscape early 2005.
The building tour Friday takes people through the Theodore Roosevelt United States Courthouse in Brooklyn. The tour will be led by architect Mariko Masuoka of Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects.
