Apple released their new version of the Mac Mini recently, making it the most energy efficient desktop computer in the world. Not only is the Mac Mini faster and more compact, it is also easy on the environment.

The computer may lack a touch screen and portability that the iPad features but for Mac users who are looking to stay in one location, the Mac Mini delivers.

The Mac Mini has a self contained power supply packed into its tiny 1.4-inch wide body structure. The full powered mini Mac comes with a standard 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and 320 GB hard drive and 2GB of memory.

The biggest competitor for Apple’s Mac Mini would have to be Dell’s mini desktop computer. Dell’s Ispiron HD comes in a multitude of different colors but it is a little bulkier. Dell’s version may not be as small as the Apple Mini but it includes many features not offered by Apple’s Mini Mac.

The bare bones version of the Mac Mini is currently priced at $699.00 but can be purchased through monthly payments of $21.00. Apple is also offering free shipping.

The Snow Leopard version of the Mac Mini has a 2.66GHz Intel Core 2 Duo and a 500 GB hard drive. It also has 4 GB in ram but a $999.00 price tag.

Dell’s Inspiron HD is a little wider and is set up for Windows but the price is much lower than the Apple Mini Mac. Dell’s mini desktop line starts at only $249.00.

The Mac Mini is also equipped with a SD Card slot making it easy to transfer files from cameras. There is also a HDMI port and Mini DisplayPort, allowing users to hook the device up to high definition monitors relatively easily.

Only 85 Watts of power are used to power the mini desktop, which is down from the last model which used 110 Watts of power. The device was awarded an Energy Star for its low power usage.
