Viral sensation “Carpool Karaoke” has caught Apple’s eye.
“We love music, and Carpool Karaoke celebrates it in a fun and unique way that is a hit with audiences of all ages,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s senior vice president of Internet Software and Services.
Unlike the late night airing, Corden will not be in the driver’s seat, but he is a producer.
Apple has ordered 16 episodes and there is no timetable for the premiere date, but production is scheduled to begin soon. The series will stream in 100 countries.
The “Carpool Karaoke” series will somewhat mirror the viral video sensation. In each episode, the celebrity will drive around to places to that hold sentimental value to said celebrity while belting out lyrics to songs from their personal playlists.
“The joy of Carpool is both the intimacy it creates, while seeing the love our passengers have for music. Where better to showcase that than with Apple Music,” said Ben Winston, executive producer of James Corden’s show as well as the new “Carpool Karaoke” series.
The “Carpool Karaoke” segment on the CBS show is wildly popular and is the No.1 most-watched late-night clip on YouTube.
Since its establishment one year ago, it has amassed over 830 million views on YouTube, thanks to singers Adele, Justin Bieber, Jennifer Lopez, Gwen Stefani, boy band One Direction and most recently—First Lady Michelle Obama.
The segment featuring Adele has tallied up an astonishing 119 million views in just six months.
“Carpool Karaoke” will continue to be a recurring segment on the late night broadcast on the CBS network.
