Apple Inc is all set to announce its cloud services, and it will be named Apple iCloud.
Apple announced the iCloud service in a press release on their website. In their press release, they also announced that they would be unveiling the next generation of their Mac OS X 10.7 operating system, called “Lion” and iOS 5, the next operating system for the popular iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad devices.
While Apple did not reveal too many details about the Apple iCloud service, industry pundits believe that it might be an effort similar to recent efforts by Google and Amazon that allow users to put their music, video and data on the cloud. Time’s Techland blog hypothesized that the iCloud service could “entail online storage and streaming features for Apple’s iTunes music service.”
Amazon’s Cloud Drive, announced at the end of March 2011, allows users to save and stream their purchased music from Amazon’s central servers, thus bypassing the need to store music on a device.
Apple also finally put an end to doubts about who would be presenting at WWDC - the press release stated that “CEO Steve Jobs and a team of Apple executives will kick off the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) with a keynote address on Monday, June 6.”
Apple’s yearly WWDC event is a Mecca for Apple enthusiasts and developers, and the company often uses this event to announce its next-generation products.
