Anzac Day in 2014 is here and people are wondering what shops and other places are closed and which ones are open.

Anzac Day is a nationwide holiday, thus banks and other services such as mail delivery are not operable.

Many big stores and even lots of small ones shut down on Anzac Day as well--but not all.

The Shop Trading Hours Repeal Act dictates that almost all shops are required to be closed on Anzac Day until 1 p.m.

Other than stores selling basic goods that people can’t put off buying until the next day--such as food, drinks, household items, person items, and gas--then the stores are likely forced to be closed.

Garden centers and real estate agencies are among the businesses that must be closed.

Many restaurants and grocery stores are remaining open on Anzac Day, including in Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane, as will libraries. Other businesses will open at 1 p.m. Emergency services will also be available if needed.

Melbourne and Victoria

Here are some of the stores and attractions that will be open before 1 p.m., per Brisbane Times and Broadsheet. Most other restaurants will open at 1 p.m., in addition to Myer and David Jones stores, Coles and Woolworths supermarkets, and National Gallery of Victoria
