A viral Facebook post saying “Another Shark Attack in Hawaii; Teen Surfer Attacked by Shark” is nothing more than spam that is spread via a rogue application.

The post shows a photo of a person on a surfboard as a shark’s head pops out of the water. There’s also a play button over it.

However, there’s no video and it merely goes to a page that asks you share the page before viewing it, which then spreads it further.

If you have shared the video, it’s recommended to go back and delete any instances of it as it’s just spam.

One also runs the possibility giving out personal information.

Regarding rogue Facebook apps, you can go to your Facebook account settings, which will list all the applications that you have given access to your account.

Go down and click the “X” on the right of the rogue app in question. Malicious apps can have popular names like “YouTube,” “CNN,” and “Fox News.”

There’s been a number of viral Facebook scams in recent months, including one that claimed singer Rihanna was killed, one about a sharking eating a man in the ocean, and one claiming to have a video of the world’s largest snake in Brazil. A recent one making the rounds claims that Justin Bieber killed a 7-year-old boy while under the influence.

In August, there was a shark attack off the Big Island of Hawaii. Jimmy Ulualoha “Ulu-boy” Nateahi, 16, was bitten and had 30 deep lacerations, but at the time, he was expected to make a full recovery

Also in August, a 20-year-old German woman, Jana Lutteropp, was attacked by a shark while she was snorkeling, CNN reported.

A shark also killed a man in December who was fishing near Maui, reported CNN.
