“Addressing Domestic Violence in Orange County” is to be the topic of this year’s Orange County Cares Healthcare Symposium, announced OC Executive Steven Neuhaus on Sept. 7. The symposium is scheduled for Sept. 23 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Emergency Services Center in Goshen, 22 Wells Farm Road.

The purpose of the event is “to raise awareness about domestic violence in Orange County, discuss its impact and provide information about services available for victims,” a press release for the event says.  Since 2004, 23 women have been murdered by a husband or intimate partner in Orange County, and one woman is still missing and of unknown status, the county executive’s office said.

David Adams, Ed.D, co-director and co-founder of Emerge in Cambridge, Massachusettes will give the keynote address. He founded the first counseling program in the nation for men who abuse women.
