Background:

One hundred years ago in 1911, the Chinese people were faced with a historical choice. The ancient imperial system was out of step with the modern world, and the Chinese people were looking for a replacement of the imperial government. The Xinhai Revolution, also known as the Revolution of 1911, took place under this situation. It overthrew the monarchy and established the first republic in Asia.

Unfortunately, during the one century after the Xinhai Revolution, China’s fate has been tumultuous and destructive. After the Chinese Communist regime usurped power, the divine land of China and the Chinese people have suffered unprecedented catastrophes in the 62 years of tyrannical rule. Traditional Chinese culture and moral values were destroyed; collusions and corruption have been common practices within the government; and the precious Chinese people lack hope for their freedom and dignity.

Today, after one hundred years, history is again coming to a turning point. Inside Mainland China, there has already been an outbreak of spiritual/conscience awakening and an ongoing massive non-violent movement of discarding communism and resisting the tyrannical rule. Will the Chinese people be able to get out from the Red Terror? They are, once again, faced with a historical choice that will determine their future. At this special occasion of one hundred years after the Xinhai Revolution, it is appropriate to look back at history and to experience the spirit of the revolution again.

This China Forum, “Xinhai Revolution: China, 100 Years Ago—Today and the Past” is co-organized by the Overseas Chinese Democracy Coalition, Huang-Hua-Gang Magazine, The Epoch Times—Washington DC, Alliance for Democracy and Freedom for Asians, Tibetan Youth Congress, Alliance of Victims in China, China Democratic Party, China Free Democratic Party.
