Anju Kushwaha, a 28-year-old woman in India, gave birth to 10 babies at a time that were all stillborn.

The births happened at a hospital in  Madhya Pradesh.

The woman had undergone fertility treatments before giving birth to the premature babies.

They all were born dead, SK Pathak, assistant superintendent of the hospital, told the Times of India

The births may have stemmed from a mis-use of the treatments, according to Dr. Sumitra, a senior gynecologist.

“It seems that that there was no regular follow-up of her pregnancy after IVF,” he said.

“At least three offspring’s could have been saved by reducing the pregnancy” through Multifetal pregnancy reduction, a selective termination, according to the doctor.

The 10 stillborn babies are thought to be the highest ever recorded in India, and possibly worldwide. One case cited as higher is a 35-year-old woman in Rome in 1971 who had 15 dead fetuses removed from her.
