Android phones are becoming more and more prevalent by the day, Google Android developer Andy Rubin said last week.

“There are over 300,000 Android phones activated each day,” Rubin said via Twitter.

Each month, this means that more than 9 million Android phones will be activated.

Several months ago, Google announced they were activating 200,000 phones per day, according to PC World.

One of the reasons for the popularity of Android phones is likely due to the sheer number of new smartphones using the Google OS.

According to reports from Canalys and the NPD Group last month, the OS accounted for more than 43 percent of the smartphone market in the third quarter of this year.

Manufacturers shipped out around 20 million Android phones in the quarter, which spanned July 1 to Sept. 30.

In the third quarter of 2009, Android smartphones made up only 5.4 percent of the market

In comparison, Research in Motion’s BlackBerry had 22 percent of the market share and Apple’s iOS and iPhone had 23 percent of the market.
