Andrew Getty, the heir to the J. Paul Getty oil empire, has been found dead in Hollywood on Tuesday, according to reports.
His ex-girlfriend was detained in the incident as a possible suspect or witness.
Getty was shot, reported TMZ.com. It says:
Our sources say Andrew and his ex-girlfriend have a storied history with the LAPD. Cops have been to his residence 31 times, mostly for domestic disturbances. Our sources say they have both frequently been under the influence of drugs during the police visits.
We’re told the drugs cops found in the past were prescriptions.
As for their relationship, we’re told he has a restraining order against her.
The Los Angeles Times also reported on the suspicious death, saying the LAPD is investigating. The Times says:
Los Angeles police robbery-homicide detectives were handling the case because of it high-profile nature, a law enforcement source.
Authorities were converging on the compound.
NBC LA also said:
The call came in from an unidentified woman who reported someone dead in the bathroom.
The sources confirmed there was trauma to the body but they said the cause was not immediately unidentifiable.
The Los Angeles County Coroner typically takes the lead in a death investigation. But if there a crime, the LAPD will take the lead for the duration of the investigation.
