NEW YORK—America’s top ranking summer show is moving to Radio City Music Hall.
“America’s Got Talent” is leaving the New Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark and will air twice a week from Radio City Music Hall beginning this summer, according to a press release.
The relocation of the show will bring an estimated 500 jobs and over $100 million of economic activity to the city.
NBCUniversal said that creative reasons are behind the move, but that it would not have been possible without New York’s tax credit for film productions.
“We applaud Governor Cuomo and the New York legislature for developing and advocating programs that attract investment and create jobs for New Yorkers,” said Rick Cotton, executive vice president of NBCUniversal.
The state recently extended and enhanced a popular film production tax credit program. An estimated 338 projects have applied to the program during Governor Cuomo’s administration, bringing $5.2 billion in direct spending to New York.
Radio City Music Hall is located in Rockefeller Center and opened its doors in 1932. The theater holds 6,000 seats and is the home of the “Rockettes” show. It is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
