A new Amazon Fresh grocery store opened in Fullerton on Feb. 25, marking the 10th Fresh store in the nation, and the second in Orange County.

The high-tech grocery store moved into 1100 S. Harbor Boulevard, the previous site of a Toys R Us store.

It’s across the street from the city’s Costco and a block away from Spout’s Farmers Market.

While similar to a typical grocery store in many ways, Amazon Fresh stores have a few perks, such as store items being scanned automatically when you put them in a “dash cart.”

Customers can walk out of the store through the dash cart lane, where sensors will automatically identify the cart and process the payment using the credit card on the shopper’s Amazon account, enabling them to skip the checkout line.

Additionally, dash carts have an attached screen that will allow users to access their Alexa shopping list to check items off and view their subtotal.

Alexa, Amazon’s infamous voice assistant, is also built into the aisles to help guide users around the store.

Fullerton’s new 45,000-square-foot store is Amazon’s second Fresh location in the county. Its first store opened in Irvine last October.

Amazon is currently keeping the store at 35 percent capacity to provide social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It requires masks for both employees and customers.
