Alexandria Chery’s body was discovered over the weekend and supporters decided to hold a mourning event as police arrested the prime suspect in the case.

Ray Joseph, the uncle of Alexandria Chery, said Saturday night that the family got a call from a detective stating there was a 98 percent chance the body that was found was Chery, reported The Ledger.

The site where the body was found, in a wooded area around the Osceola-Polk Line Road, is less than two miles from where the search for Chery began.

Chery, 16 and a student at Olympia High School, was reported missing on Monday.

Sanel Saint Simon, Chery’s mother’s longtime live-in boyfriend, has been arrested and faces charges of providing false information to law enforcement and attempting to destroy evidence. He has not been charged in Alexandria’s disappearance, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

Meanwhile, a group of friends and others, such as fellow students, gathered at Poppy Park on Sunday, remembering Alexandria and hoping that the body turns out not to be her.

“We realize Alex is in a better place, but we must never erase the memories of that beautiful smile,” the Rev. Pam Wilcox, who helped organize the fundraiser, said over a sound system to the group.
