An Alabama Deputy is in the hospital after being shot during a standoff with a man on Saturday, according to the Randolph County Sheriff’s office.

The incident reportedly began as a domestic situation where an armed man was holding his wife hostage. The man had also set fire to his son’s house, yard, and car, and killed his son’s dog beforehand, according to Clay County Web

The two sides exchanged fire, during which the deputy was shot twice, ABC7 reported. The standoff ended when the suspect apparently turned the gun on himself as police closed in. Details on the suspect’s age or gender were not revealed.

Afterwards, the deputy was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, where the Randolph County Sheriff’s office says he is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident is still undergoing investigation by Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation.

The Sheriff’s Office also notes that the incident is separate from and not related to shooting incidents involving police officers that occurred across the U.S. earlier in the week.
