A.J. Willett was identified as a suspect in the Brashear High School shooting near Pittsburgh Wednesday.
CBS Pittsburgh posted an image of him on its Twitter feed of the purported suspect in custody being led by officers.
Willett was identified as 16 years old.
Police sources told the station that he claimed he was robbed by some of the victims and said he would get back at them.
Three students were shot as they were walking from the high school. They are in stable condition.
There were several other “persons of interest” taken into custody in connection with the case.
According to WPXI-TV, the suspects appeared from the woods close to the high school and opened fire.
The school was placed on lockdown, which was later lifted.
School officials told WPXI that the students were “ambushed” as they were walking from school and the incident didn’t take place on school property.
A student was shot in the leg and foot, and another was shot in the hand. The other was shot in the shoulder and neck.
“The students ran to the school for safety. I want to be clear the shooting did not occur in the school,” acting Pittsburgh Police Chief Regina McDonald told the station.
McDonald said that the three victims were not cooperating with police.
“We do have some leads on the actor or actors,” Richard told ABC.
Mayor-Elect Bill Peduto’s office issued a statement about the shooting.
“Mayor-Elect Peduto has been in close contact from the National League of Cities Conference in Seattle with Public Safety Director Huss regarding the shootings this afternoon at Brashear High School. Consistent with requests by city police, we advise all residents in the area to lock their homes and stay indoors, while the police continue to search for the perpetrators,” the statement reads, according to CBS.
